Optimal node placement in an optical packet switching Manhattan street network

چکیده
The judicious allocation of traffic matrix sources/destinations to nodes of an exemplar optical packet switching architecture, the Manhattan street network, is studied in this paper. The node placement optimisation (NPO) problem is intractable, hence simulated annealing is used to find (near) optimal solutions expeditiously. A number of nonuniform traffic patterns are considered, facilitating the study of the innate parameters of a traffic matrix that affect the optimisation results. A salient finding is that, regardless of the underlying traffic pattern, the efficacy of NPO is correlated to the coefficient of variation of the traffic matrix. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Impact of Link Failures on an Optical Packet-Switched Manhattan Street Network
Abstract – In this paper we examine the problem of resilience in a Clockwork Routing scheme employed in a Manhattan Street Network (MSN) network architecture. The MSN has been proposed as a promising candidate for high-speed optical packet-switched applications. In this paper, we study the impact of single physical link or node failures on the self-routing topology and the effects on the routin...

Optical packet switching over arbitrary physical topologies typically mandates complex routing schemes and the use of buffers to resolve the likely contentions. However, the relatively immature nature of optical logic devices and the limitations with optical buffering provide significant incentive to reduce the routing complexity and avoid optical domain contentions. This paper examines how the...

immature nature of optical logic devices and the limitations associated with optical buffering provide significant incentive to reduce the routing complexity and avoid optical domain contentions. This paper examines how the Manhattan Street Network (MSN) may be used to facilitate optical packet switching over arbitrary physical topologies. Several pertinent novel costs are introduced. Simulated...
متن کاملMulticasting in deflection-routed all-optical packet-switched networks
Two multicast protocols are proposed for deflectionrouted all-optical packet-switched networks. One scheme sends a deflected multicast packet back to the root node while the other sends it back to the deflection point. Both schemes can be implemented using demonstrated optical signal processing technology. The performance of the two proposed multicast schemes are compared using Manhattan Street...
